Use statement pieces for red-carpet worthy style

Heidi Klum knows how to work the accessories. While moviegoers scramble to catch all of the Oscar-nominated films before the Academy Awards air in March, stylists are already working to predict what dresses and accessories will be popular on the red carpet next spring.

If this fall’s Emmy Awards are any indication of trends to come, bold jewelry might work to accent more traditional dresses than the red carpet has seen in recent years.

Heidi Klum, for example, paired a strapless black sheath dress with a pair of show-stopping black diamondearrings by Lorraine Schwartz. The bling came in at a whopping 90 carats. (Take that Miss Tequila.) To showcase the beautiful earrings, the model went sans-necklace.

Conversely, actress Ginnifer Goodwin donned a pair of understated diamond stud earrings for a sparkle that didn’t compete with her rose gold and rock necklace – a gorgeous statement piece if we ever saw one.

At the event, Ginnifer’s "Big Love" costar Chloe Sevigny wore a vintage gold bracelet to complement the retro feel of her simple Isaac Mizrahi gown.

To incorporate some star style into your wardrobe, showcase one accessory at a time and try to create a cohesive overall affect. For example, if you feel like wearing a deco-inspired bracelet, channel Katharine Hepburn and throw on some menswear-inspired duds or wrap dress.
