Ellen Page is a Cutie.

Posted by Joe Roy @ 11:58 pm 9 05 2008

Ellen Page is just so cute. Ellen Page is a cutie, and I don’t have more to say about that. She’s talented, sassy, and just, if I haven’t mentioned it, cute as a damn bug. I only have one problem with her - she doesn’t wear a lot of jewelry. It is hard to find a picture of her wearing cute jewelry. I could have done a lot worse than this one, though. The gold dress is a brave and unusual choice, and it looks beautiful on her. Her hoops-with-dangles earrings are youthful without being juvenile, and they match her dress and features admirably.

Andrea Barna gold and peridot hoop earrings
Try for the same look with these eighteen-carat gold over sterling silver peridot hoops by Andrea Barna. Clusters of vivid peridot beads dangle from gold hoops made of several interlocking rings. A beautiful buy, and a wise one, too - they’re only $95!

BAD LINDSAY. BAD, BAD LINDSAY.

Posted by Joe Roy @ 9:19 pm 7 05 2008

I think it's her necklace. I think I’ve started a post this way before, but:

OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD.

LINDSAY LOHAN (might have allegedly rumor has it) STOLE A FUR COAT

According to the New York Post (I know, I know, but still) the lovely Miss Lohan attended a party this January… and waltzed off with a fur belonging to a Columbia undergrad! (I literally cannot imagine having had a fur coat in college. Or actually finishing college. Anyway.) The Post has pictures of Lohan coming in in a tasteful black coat… and emerging in a lovely fur. With the stolen coat and the cocaine pants, she’s a terrorism blouse, smuggling hairdo, and a pair of murderboots away from a full felony ensemble.

silver and cubic zirconia necklace
And it’s not like she doesn’t own nice things. Look at her necklace! Granted, this is from her redhead, sober, pre-career-Hindenburg days, but it’s still a beaut, and probably hers! It’s a sparkly fun look that’s understated enough to pair with more accessories, but enough to sport on its own. Go for the same look with this silver and cubic zirconia necklace - not only is it a beautiful evening piece, but at $95, it’s an absolute steal! (I kill me.)

Sarah Jessica Parker Divas Out

Posted by Joe Roy @ 10:02 pm 27 04 2008

Diva alert!I have mixed feelings about Sarah Jessica Parker. One the one hand, she’s sassy, and Sex and the City did have its moments. On the other hand, Sex and the City had moments, rather than episodes or seasons, and she dresses like she comes from a planet that doesn’t have clothes and she’s not over the novelty. Do you ever play the Sarah Jessica Parker game, in which you come up with the most outlandish outfit you can imagine, and then go through her old publicity stills to see how close you were? Try it: a mink pillbox hat, pink naugahyde blouse, tutu, electric blue leggings with kind of a watermark pattern, and wooden Dutch clogs? (Hint: First Wives’ Club.) Anyway, I saw the poster for the Sex and the City movie today, and… no. No, ma’am. I’m going to ignore the terrible, terrible design of the poster - with difficulty, and only because this is a celebrity blog, not a media design blog - so I can concentrate on its larger flaw.

It only has Sarah Jessica Parker on it. Alone. The other actresses are nowhere to be seen.

Sex and the City was an ensemble cast. That’s why it was funny. It wasn’t the SJP show, and for good reason. It seems “star” and executive producer SJP has decided, at this late stage, to try to anoint herself Leading Lady. It’s a tacky, tacky move, and even if it wasn’t SJP’s idea, she shouldn’t have done it. No class.

Anyway, here’s a picture of SJP dressed like an Earth woman. (It must have been Halloween.) Her dressers accessorized her well, except for what appears to be a black satin rose, but we must take the bitter with the sweet. Her necklace is unusual and fun, in keeping with Parker’s commitment to a unique personal style, but is restrained, tasteful, and - dare I say it? - age-appropriate. Her earrings match her look. They’re dressy enough to match her outfit, but they’re not so flashy as to overstated and gaudy. If you got rid of that “flower,” this would be a home run.

green quartz earrings
These green quartz and diamond white gold earrings are a good example of dressy, but not overstated jewelry. They’re posh enough that you’ll never seem underdressed in them, but scaled down enough that you can comfortably wear other jewelry with them without going over the top. The green of the quartz is subtle enough that they’ll be relatively easy to match, but still a clear, lovely shade. Wear them on your next movie poster for only $195!

Kidney infection

Posted by Joe Roy @ 10:32 am 6 04 2008

Kidney infection So, it seems Jessica Simpson was hospitalized for a kidney infection last weekend? Did we see this? I feel guilty for saying this… but do you believe it? “Kidney infection” sounds like one of those vague non-illnesses that get used as a non-threatening cover for something else, like “dehydration,” “exhaustion,” or “gas gangrene.” Do people usually go to the hospital for what was described as a “minor” kidney infection, or am I too suspicious? I guess we’ll see over the coming weeks - if she shaves her head and runs over a photographer (let’s just say for example) I’ll have the hollow victory of knowing I called it, maybe.

sapphire and diamond necklace
Anyway, here she is in happier, less IV-laden times, wearing a beautiful sapphire necklace. (I cropped the sparkly stretch pleather dress out of the picture.) You can copy her look without the stinging pain with this stylish sapphire, diamond, and white gold necklace. Three deep blue sapphires shine out of a restrained setting that lets the stones do the talking. A great evening piece, and yours for only $195.

Audrey Hepburn.

Posted by Joe Roy @ 2:00 pm 30 03 2008

She belched class.Full disclosure: no one was classier than Audrey Hepburn. She had a special brand of beauty and an seemingly effortless style of acting that, combined with her impeccable taste (she is the reason the Little Black Dress even exists) has made her one of the foremost style icons of classic cinema. In addition to being an amazing star, Hepburn was also just awesome in general: she survived the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, and raised money for the Dutch Resistance by putting on secret ballet shows. Later in life, she was known for her extensive humanitarian work with hungry children, and multiple humanitarian awards are given in her honor. All this is, of course, in addition to Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and other classic films.

heart earringsThe war is over and the films are made, but you can still get Audrey’s looks from this classic photo with these white gold heart earrings with diamond accents. These earrings are a modern take on the ones Audrey wears in the famous photo: simpler, but retaining the charming heart shape close to the ear. Buy yourself a piece of Hollywood magic today for only $85.

Oh, Petey-Pete.

Posted by Joe Roy @ 9:28 pm 28 03 2008

Oh, Pete.Hey, y’all. Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I had to go back to Louisiana for a few weeks. Brit-Brit’s momma needed someone to watch the cats while she tried to iron out her daughter. (Good luck.) Anyway, I get back, and what do I learn?

Pete Doherty has converted to Scientology. Oof.

Seriously, was he not enough of a mess? I have never seen a picture of him where he didn’t look just greasy to the touch. Now he’s going to use science to worship aliens? Really? I don’t understand the world anymore. I thought they were all anti-drug and anti-Tylenol and anti-fun. What is he gonna do?

This reminds me of the old conversation my friends and I used to have. In a parallel world, where Pete Doherty is sober, could he be attractive? It can’t happen on our planet, I know, but sometimes I like to look at a picture of him and wonder. Like this one. See? He’s standing. His skin has had some oil scraped off. Village People hat notwithstanding, couldn’t you see it? Maybe? If he were a little less English?

silver figaro chainAnyway, his (top) necklace looks nice. I don’t know what’s up with that lower pendant - it looks like a failed knot-tying badge - but the silver chain necklace with the low/open collar is a classic look and a great way to combine classy with casual. It’s jewelry without looking like The Decorated Man. You can achieve this look without heroin with this 22-inch sterling silver figaro chain. It’s a simple, stylish look that you can dress up or down, and a great gift - even for yourself! - at $75.

Jessica AlbaJessica Alba was recently spotted on the red carpet wearing a lovely gown of deep purple. This royal color was a glamorous choice for the an awards ceremony. She complemented her ensemble with smoky purple eye make-up.

Posted by icegrrl @ 7:19 pm 10 03 2008

Stacy LondonStacy London, star of television’s “What Not to Wear”, turns herself out in a fabulous chocolaty brown gown. It’s tres elegant but kind of reminds me of a night gown - sorry Stacy! She does look great in it though. It’s high waisted so that diminishes her hips and accents her narrow waist. The dramatic corset plays up her, um, upper half. I Got Punched in the Mouth at the Oscars

Posted by icegrrl @ 8:22 pm 25 02 2008

Anne_Hathaway.JPGGirls, it’s getting a little ridiculous. I mean, 10 years ago when we started putting goo in out lips, it was ok. No one was going over baord - except Melanie Griffith. That girl was the one that always took it too far. But today it looks like they’ve hired someone at every event to just pop these girls in the mouth right before they step out of the limo.

Check out little miss thang, Anne Hathaway. First of all, she looks INCREDIBLE - but those lips are so B-I-G! Other than that, I would be so thankful if a couple of other folks (names withheld to protect the GUILTY) would take some pointers from Anne. Her skin is flawless and her dress - well, it kind of reminds me of a Rose Parade float. It is beautiful though. She did the right thing to forgo a necklace with all that detail on her dress. Anne’s earrings are classic and she’ll be able to wear those beauties again.

3/8 Carat Diamond 14K White Gold Earrings By DalumiIf you too are in the market for a classic pair of earrings that you’ll wear time and time again, you can’t pass up these 3/8 carat diamond earrings in 14K white gold by Dalumi. It makes for an elegant, understated look.

Fool’s Gold!

Posted by Joe Roy @ 2:02 am 8 02 2008

THE HOT! THE HOT!Look at that. Look. At. That. I am definitely going to see “Fool’s Gold” when it comes out. I don’t know what it’s about and I don’t care. It has that man in it. I would pay seventeen dollars to watch him shuck corn cobs for two hours. Oh, Matt. I love you so.

Ahem. Anyway. In “Fool’s Gold,” my rival Kate Hudson has the perfect accessory (see picture!) but she also, judging from the promotional pictures and previews I’ve seen, wears some great jewelry in the film. (She should be content with her rocks and leave my man alone.) Go browse the collection at ice.com of jewelry inspired by the film - but you’re on your own as far as getting yourself a McConaughey. If I find out, I am keeping him.

27 Dresses Jewelry!

Posted by icegrrl @ 2:30 am 29 01 2008

twenty_seven_dressesOk, so I have to admit, I didn’t want to like it, but I did. 27 Dresses staring Katherine Hiegel was actually kinda sweet.

Ice.com apparently thought so too because they designed a two entire jewelry collections around it. Check out both the Fashion Jewelry Collection and, of course, the Bridal Jewelry collection.

On each respective page you can see multiple pieces of jewelry paired with stills from the scenes in film where they were worn. I guess that means we can all feel a little bit like a movie star when wearing them, and really, who can say no to that?

Great Earrings for Moms

Posted by icegrrl @ 7:20 pm 16 01 2008

With all the new moms in Hollywood, I thought I’d give you all some jewelry advice that will help you look fabulous and keep baby safe. One, if you see Britney - RUN! Two, check out these looks:

According to some parenting experts, babies really go for dangly earrings during their first year. It just goes to show you that people love sparkly things from birth. Anyway, they recommend not wearing earrings that babies can grab during this time. But there are lots of earring options that will help mommy look fabulous while staying out of baby’s reach.

diamond earringsThese 1/2 carat diamond princess cut solitaire earrings are - well - wow! The princess cut really gives this pair of earrings depth and richness. Plus there is a ton of 14K gold in the geometric setting.

topaz and diamond earringsFor a splash of color, try these icy blue topaz and diamond earrings. All of you blue-eyed beauties out there take notice! These earrings will make your eyes sparkle! They’re set in a brushed white gold setting with a saftey catch. That will keep them on securely while mommy is doing all of her important jobs - like putting baby in the car seat!

Now these earrings are definitely not baby resistant but there are some days that mommy just has to get out on her own. For those times, this pair of garnet and marcasite sterling silver earrings that will look great with jeans and a t-shirt or even a ball gown. Leave the kid-o with daddy, grandma, or a babysitter and treat yourself to some time away.
