LINDSAY LOHAN (might have allegedly rumor has it) STOLE A FUR COAT

According to the New York Post (I know, I know, but still) the lovely Miss Lohan attended a party this January… and waltzed off with a fur belonging to a Columbia undergrad! (I literally cannot imagine having had a fur coat in college. Or actually finishing college. Anyway.) The Post has pictures of Lohan coming in in a tasteful black coat… and emerging in a lovely fur. With the stolen coat and the cocaine pants, she’s a terrorism blouse, smuggling hairdo, and a pair of murderboots away from a full felony ensemble.

And it’s not like she doesn’t own nice things. Look at her necklace! Granted, this is from her redhead, sober, pre-career-Hindenburg days, but it’s still a beaut, and probably hers! It’s a sparkly fun look that’s understated enough to pair with more accessories, but enough to sport on its own. Go for the same look with this silver and cubic zirconia necklace - not only is it a beautiful evening piece, but at $95, it’s an absolute steal! (I kill me.)

In keeping with the whole “let’s pretend they’re two different people” schtick, here’s a picture of noted teen rockstar Hannah Montana, not be confused with noted “isn’t she kind of young to photographed nude in a bedsheet” model and Achy Breaky Heiress, Miley Cyrus. She looks super-cute here. Her dress, provided it’s long enough, which I can’t really tell from the picture and could go either way, is tremendously flattering while still being age-appropriate. It’s also a wonderful color for her complexion, which looks active and tanned without seeming fakebaked. I’m not crazy about her chunky highlights, but that’s a choice and they don’t look bad, just not to my taste. I’m on the fence about whether she has on too much jewelry. There’s no one piece I would object to, but earrings and cocktail ring and bangles could be just too much. I’d probably need to have a better look at her earrings to be sure.

She could simplify and streamline her look while still being dressy - and still having the fun of a lot of jewelry - by replacing her various gold bangles with this two-tone yellow and white gold bracelet. This is a gorgeous piece, eye-catching but simple and elegant without being too demure for a young actress at a premiere. Well, I about fell out of my chair when I saw an article on right hand rings. Now, those of you who read this blog regularly (thanks!) will know that I have been writing about right hand rings for years now. Our series bling finger is all about right hand rings! Before I talk about her jewelry - and oh, we will talk about her jewelry - I want to talk about her father. If you had told me, when I was in elementary school and “Achy Breaky Heart” was on the radio (every hour of every broadcast of every station of every day) that someday I would think to myself, “You know, Billy Ray Cyrus is kind of a bad father,” I wouldn’t have believed you - and being nine years old, might have kicked you in the shins. Seriously, though. Does her father have a brain in his head? She’s what, sixteen? And she’s constantly on the road / filming / shooting whatever? And her birth name was something like Destiny Geranium or something? I was skeptical of how she was being raised even before the Annie Leibowitz photography flap.

And then I got terrible, terrible confirmation that she was being raised terribly. She showed up somewhere wearing - what else, now? - a pink plastic heart necklace. I don’t have the words. Pink… plastic… heart… pendant. I don’t want to seem judgmental, but that is TACKY. Any parent should have seen this in her room and burned it. If she wants a heart, she should wear real jewelry, like this two-tone gold and diamond heart pendant. It’s playful and youthful without being plastic. And at only $95, her father could pick it up for what he makes on 20 seconds of replay of that friggin’ “Achy Breaky.”

I had kind of a problem with Cynthia Nixon’s look on Sex and the City. Cynthia Nixon (C.Nix? No, I’m not feeling it) is beautiful and glamorous, but I never felt like she got to show herself off as much as she deserved, although, granted, it’s hard to shine when Sarah Jessica Parker is pulling focus by wearing a pink bikini under a mink coat that has been belted with a python. that said, she might be the best comedic actress of the group. I remember situations of all the characters, but I’m more likely to remember Miranda’s actual lines - and their razor-sharp delivery.

See what I mean about glamorous? Cynthia Nixon has survived breast cancer, coming out, and her fortieth birthday, but she still looks amazing on the red carpet. Redheads aren’t “supposed” to wear red, but she pulls it off without a hitch here. Her hairstyle looks great, and her makeup is as sexy as it can be without being garish. She stepped to the line, but not over. I have mixed feeling about her earrings. They work, but they could be better. I feel like the sticking-out gems make a weird shape that’s slightly distracting. If I were her… I would be rich and famous, and that would be awesome, but also I would have chosen these half carat diamond gold hoop earrings with this outfit. These earrings pair the classic, versatile hoop shape with the sparkle of diamonds without being odd or overdone. Even if you’re not Cynthia Nixon (which, sadly, most of us aren’t,) you can still afford this great look at a bargain $295!

Okay, yeah. I’m just going to go through the Sex and the City ladies this week. I don’t have a lot to say about Kristin Davis, really, except that she is absolutely lovely. She’s unquestionably beautiful, but in her own way. She’s Kristin Davis pretty, not starlet pretty. It’s probably wholly due to her character on the show, but I have this strange idea that she is just absolutely sweet. It’s probably just her appearance - doesn’t she look like a nun who would become entangled with an Austrian army general and raise his kids and convince him not to marry the Baroness and… anyway. I’ve never seen The Sound of Music.

Classic musical tangents aside, she looks great in this picture. She’s chosen to pair “being Kristin Davis” - a classic look in itself - with a lovely pair of sparkling earrings. They’re simple, yet elegant, and will complement any outfit. Kristin probably shelled out for diamonds, but you can get the same effect with these 9 1/2 carat white topaz earrings. Large clear topazes gleam in a basic white gold setting - an absolute must for any jewelry box, and a real bargain at $195!

I may just run through all the Sex and the City ladies this week. Of the actresses on that show, Kim Cattrall is the one I’d most like to just hang out with. She’s older than the usual sex symbol, and she doesn’t come close to caring, and she pulls it off. She knows she’s sexy, and she’s sexy because she knows it. (And probably because she’s had work done, but hey! It was good work.) She manages to take a cliched sitcom character - “slut” - and turn in a realistic, nuanced performance without sacrificing laughs.

That said, all that said, what is this necklace? It would be fine in another context - not on everyone, but Cattrall has her own brand of tasteful over-the-top - but there’s no reason to wear it with this top. The fringe hits right below the neckline. That’s… weird. It’s gotten tucked into her undercleavage. If she wanted a fun look, she should have gone with something like this triple strand glass and sterling silver bead necklace. It’s unusual and vivacious without causing neckline problems. And at $95, she could have easily covered it with ten seconds of Sex and the City screen time!
