I have mixed feelings about Sarah Jessica Parker. One the one hand, she’s sassy, and Sex and the City did have its moments. On the other hand, Sex and the City had moments, rather than episodes or seasons, and she dresses like she comes from a planet that doesn’t have clothes and she’s not over the novelty. Do you ever play the Sarah Jessica Parker game, in which you come up with the most outlandish outfit you can imagine, and then go through her old publicity stills to see how close you were? Try it: a mink pillbox hat, pink naugahyde blouse, tutu, electric blue leggings with kind of a watermark pattern, and wooden Dutch clogs? (Hint: First Wives’ Club.) Anyway, I saw the poster for the Sex and the City movie today, and… no. No, ma’am. I’m going to ignore the terrible, terrible design of the poster - with difficulty, and only because this is a celebrity blog, not a media design blog - so I can concentrate on its larger flaw.

It only has Sarah Jessica Parker on it. Alone. The other actresses are nowhere to be seen.

Sex and the City was an ensemble cast. That’s why it was funny. It wasn’t the SJP show, and for good reason. It seems “star” and executive producer SJP has decided, at this late stage, to try to anoint herself Leading Lady. It’s a tacky, tacky move, and even if it wasn’t SJP’s idea, she shouldn’t have done it. No class.

Anyway, here’s a picture of SJP dressed like an Earth woman. (It must have been Halloween.) Her dressers accessorized her well, except for what appears to be a black satin rose, but we must take the bitter with the sweet. Her necklace is unusual and fun, in keeping with Parker’s commitment to a unique personal style, but is restrained, tasteful, and - dare I say it? - age-appropriate. Her earrings match her look. They’re dressy enough to match her outfit, but they’re not so flashy as to overstated and gaudy. If you got rid of that “flower,” this would be a home run.

These green quartz and diamond white gold earrings are a good example of dressy, but not overstated jewelry. They’re posh enough that you’ll never seem underdressed in them, but scaled down enough that you can comfortably wear other jewelry with them without going over the top. The green of the quartz is subtle enough that they’ll be relatively easy to match, but still a clear, lovely shade. Wear them on your next movie poster for only $195!

I think Faith Hill is one of the most beautiful women in entertainment today. She’s just a freakin’ Barbie. Tall. Blond. Perfect body. I SO have a HUGE resentment against Faith. Anyway, I get her desire to stand out from the crowd - but this Bat Girl outfit is just awful! It’s just a few steps away from a Hefty Cinch Sack. Here’s a word to the wise: unless you’re built like Faith (10 feet tall and slim slim slim) DO NOT attempt to wear tight, high cut slacks. Even on Faith, they make the upper part of her skinny legs seem larger than the bottom. They also make her legs appear shorter than they really are. Most women want the illusion to do the other way - they want their behinds to appear smaller and their legs longer.

But ladies check out Faith’s huge ring on her right hand. She’s working the Bling Finger trend by wearing this huge cocktail ring on the middle finger of her right hand. Buying a diamond that size would be too costly for most of us. Her earrings are fun and modern and really help pull off this look. She made a good choice not to wear a necklace. The decoration on the dress is enough.

Did you know that Paw Paw’s real name was Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow (more names than Elizabeth Taylor!) and he was almost 13. So he had a nice long dog life.

When I think of Martha the first thing that comes to mind - well - is nuts! But of course Martha is the icon for casual elegance and style. The perfect jewel for Martha’s look is the pearl. What is that dress? It is tight, blood red, and features a form-fitting rhinestone netting. I literally could not have imagined it even with a high fever and having licked a toad. Is that a spider on her bodice? Is she just, like, so different from the other kids at Anton LaVey Junior High?

I just looked at the dress again and suddenly realized it might be supposed to be heavy-grade snakeskin, and I guess if she’s willing to face the “Save the Dragons” people, I should leave her alone.

Her bracelet would be lovely if it didn’t defy one of the cardinal unspoken (until now, apparently) rules of red carpet couture: never match your accessories to your dress in an exaggerated cartoon fashion. There’s so much shine everywhere with the dress and the bracelet and the dress and another part of the dress that she looks like the villianess from a moderately risque Saturday morning cartoon - Baroness Glitterpoison von Boltz, I’m imagining. The B-52’s would do the theme song.

…I should actually storyboard that cartoon. Before I do, though, I will recommend that you buy this seven-and-a-half carat diamond and white gold bracelet. So, it seems Jessica Simpson was hospitalized for a kidney infection last weekend? Did we see this? Why she was cast I’m not sure, as it’s quite clear, if you run her through Google image search, that she has, er, a claim to paradise. Anyway, I managed, eventually, to find a picture of her with both a shirt and some fun jewelry on. (The jewelry part was way easier than the shirt.)
